Subsidy systems use DCR panels. A 3 kW system uses five panels. A 5 kW system uses eight panels, 4.7 to 5.0 kWp depending on the panel brand, sized to stay within a 5 kW sanctioned load. The ₹78,000 subsidy is paid by the central government into your bank account after installation. A 3 kW system generates about 360 units a month in Chennai.

Why the subsidy system costs more
The central subsidy only applies to systems built with DCR panels: panels made in India from Indian cells. They cost almost twice as much per watt as standard panels.
The gap shrinks as systems get bigger, so your report shows both prices side by side and you choose.
